Edmonton – Grab your mittens and toques and get ready to create Winter Experiences with us! Silver Skate Festival, Edmonton’s longest running winter festival, returns to celebrate winter sport, recreation, arts and culture in William Hawrelak Park February 10 – 20, 2023.

“We’re really looking forward to bringing back a full slate of programming for our attendees in 2023. We’re really looking to go out with a bang before relocating to Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park for the next few years.”

Executive Producer Erin DiLoreto

Come and behold Hawrelak Park transformed into a mosaic of winter fun for the entire family! Glide effortlessly along the largest skating pond in the city, marvel at the artistic talent on display in the Waiward Snow Sculpture Symposium and Garden, be delighted by nomadic performers on the Imperial Oil Folk Trail, enjoy the spectacle of the Fire Sculptures and Burn, and sample food from some of Edmonton’s top culinary talent at Spirits on Ice.

We’re continually adding to our events sections. Please monitor silverskate.ca for updates.

Josh Languedoc is an Anishinaabe playwright, producer, performer, and teacher who has made a home in beautiful Treaty 6 Territory. Most recently, you will have seen Josh’s producing work at the Edmonton Fringe Festival as the curator of the all-Indigenous pêhonân Series. Committed to supporting the growth of Indigenous artists and communities, Josh has stepped into the Silver Skate Festival as the Indigenous Coordinator.

For his first year with the festival, Josh is building an Indigenous pavilion that will include installations, stories, and a Winter Walking Ceremony. The pavilion will be physically inspired by the directions of the Medicine Wheel. It will face the appropriate directions and be located in the familiar space near the cafe. On both Saturdays and Sundays it will feature interactive programming from 12-5pm. The night will end at 6:30pm with a Walking Ceremony hosted by Adam Erasmus. Festival-goers will follow Adam in a sacred walk around the park ending with an intention setting and tobacco offering.
