Backgrounder

The Silver Skate Festival has been creating winter experiences for Edmontonians of all ages for over 30 years!

Every February, Edmonton’s longest running winter festival provides a free family-oriented winter celebration promoting the joy of outdoor activities in Alberta through the blending of sport, recreation, arts and culture.

Attendees have beheld Edmonton’s scenic river valley transformed into a mosaic of winter fun! Whether gliding along a pristine skating pond to the tunes of local musicians, marveling at the artistic talent on display at the snow sculpture demonstrations, cheering on the athletes in the winter triathlon, or cooking bannock and learning about Indigenous oral histories and traditions in a Cree winter camp, friends and families have enjoyed activities that are as diverse as the people who call our Northern community home.
